Without realizing it, it's easy to lean on emotions to dictate how you are going to feel.  You may think that you have no control over how you feel emotionally.  You may think that you have to allow your emotions to tell you how you are going to think--what you will think about, how often you'll think about it etc.   But that's not what the Bible teaches.  Emotions have a part to play in our lives but they are not meant to lead us.  

"For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God."  Romans 8:14 NLT

What does it mean to be led by the Spirit of God?  It means that you allow the Spirit of God to lead you in everything.  You decide to listen to what God is saying concerning every area of your life.  When you do that, you are not allowing your emotions to run your life but you are allowing God to.   No matter what has gotten you down the Bible has an answer for it.  The Bible is full of promises.  It's full of hope.  But you don't get answers just by having a Bible in the house.  You don't get help just by having a Bible sitting next to your bed.  You don't even get answers just by letting God know how miserable you are.  He already knows!   You need to open the Bible and read what God has to say and learn to do things His way.  

"Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think..." Romans 12:2 NLT

The way you can change how you've been feeling is to change the way you think.  And the way you change how you think is to fill it with the Word of God.  Learn to think like God thinks.  Find out what God says about you and to you.  Find out what He says about your situation.  He is the truth.  His Word is the truth.  You might think that how you feel is the truth.  But God says His Word is the truth. (John 17:17).  The truth is that God has provided a way for you to have hope, to have peace, and to have joy.  He has made it all available for you.  You just need to learn how to receive it.  He has set the table and you just need to sit down and eat!

"In my distress I cried unto the Lord, and he heard me."  Psalm 120:1

God has heard your prayer.  And He's showing you the answer.  The answer is in His Word-the Bible.  Look for the promises.  Believe that He's telling the truth.  When He says He will take care of you, He will. (Philippians 4:19).  When He says He will never leave you, He won't.  (Hebrews 13:5).  When He says you will come through the problem, then you will.  (2 Corinthians 2:14).  But you need to believe it and learn to do things His way.  Know that you can trust Him to deliver you because He doesn't lie, He is the truth, and the truth will make you free!
