"For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God." Romans 8:14 This verse tells us how we should be led. We, who are Christians, should be led by the Spirit of God. This means that we're not to be led by circumstances, or by the opinions of other people-even good people. This means that the Spirit of God Himself will lead us and guide us. Does this mean you should never ask other mature, godly Christians for advice? No, because the Bible also says in the multitude of counselors there is safety (Proverbs 11:14). What it means is that we are not dependent upon the opinions of others or circumstances in our life to lead us. It means that the Spirit of God will lead us. "O Lord, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps." Jeremiah 10:23 We were not made to direct our own steps. We were made to seek direction from the Lord. And the Lord will give us that direction by leading us by His Spirit. What a relief it is to know that we can seek guidance for our lives from the Lord and that He will direct us! It takes a burden off of us to know that we don't have to figure everything out all by ourselves. We have the guidance of the Holy Spirit to lead us. We have His wisdom, His knowledge, His insight and perception. And we have the will of God. God has given gifts to all of us and His desire is for us to discover those gifts and to walk in them. Just the fact of uncovering the gifts and calling of God on our life will help us to be a lot more focused in our direction. "...for we had been foreordained (chosen
and appointed beforehand) in accordance with His purpose, Who works out
everything in agreement with the counsel and design of His [own] will. We've been chosen and appointed in accordance with God's own purpose and will. That's why it's so important to seek Him and to seek to be led by His Spirit. The more accurately we understand the will of God for our life the easier it will be for us to make decisions. When we know His will for us there are many areas we know not to go and there's many things we know not to do. Knowing what you are not supposed to do is often just as helpful as knowing what you are supposed to do. Remember to: "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths." Proverbs 3:4-6 Acknowledge Him in all your ways, and He will direct your paths.
God Bless you and have a great day!
