"I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty "

1 Timothy 2:1-2

In America, voting is only part of our responsibility as Christians.  It's also vital for Americans to make it a practice to continue to pray for our leaders.   Whether or not we agree with them or voted for them we need to uphold them in prayer.  Christians need to unite in prayer and not think that just because we have voted we've done our whole duty.

Our federal, state and local authorities need godly, Christian support and prayer to be offered on their behalf because of the ongoing spiritual battle over these positions.  Even godly leaders can become influenced by a strong cloud of darkness if they are not upheld in prayer.  We need to pray for our leaders to seek and see the truth of God in all of their affairs.  We need for them to be surrounded with God's presence and light.

We can mistakenly put too much responsibility for our happiness on our leaders.  If you get frustrated with your life it's easy to look for someone to blame, and blame is often focused in their direction.  But when you keep your faith rightly placed in God you can avoid the frustration and disappointment that misplaced blame brings.

If you are angry, get rid of the anger first so you can pray for your leaders sincerely.  As long as you're angry at them or critical of them you won't be able to pray for them with a proper motivation.  Notice that this scripture in 1 Timothy tells us that we're not just to pray and petition Heaven on their behalf but we're to thank God on their behalf as well!  A thankful heart begins with a trust in God--not just people--to take care of you!

Remember to continue to keep your leaders in prayer!

"In the beginning of the contest with Britain, when we were sensible of danger, we had daily prayers in this room for Divine protection.  Our prayers, Sir, were heard, and they were graciously answered.  All of us who were engaged in the struggle must have observed frequent instances of a superintending Providence in our favor. . . . and have we not forgotten this powerful Friend?  Or do we imagine we no longer need His assistance?  I have lived, Sir, a long time, and the longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth: “that God governs in the affairs of man.”  And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without His notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without His aid?"    Benjamin Franklin
