There was a man who
started a company. He built it from the ground up.
He hired a couple to manage it. He told the couple to hire
as many people as possible because there were a lot of people
who needed jobs. The owner wanted as many people as
possible to have jobs. The company grew and hired many
workers. As time went on, the couple died and left their
children as managers. Over the years different people
managed the company.
One day, the
original owner came to visit the company. He talked with
the workers. He saw how they were working. They had
a lot of things goofed up. They weren't using the
equipment right. They were creating more work for
themselves and if they kept it up, the company would lose so
much money that they'd all be out of a job.
The owner explained
this to the workers. He showed them the company's manuals.
But many of them, in fact most of them, didn't believe the
owner. They didn't even believe he was the owner.
Many, most of the workers didn't do what he said. They did it
the way they always did it.
So the man went to
the managers of the company. Surely they would believe
him and explain to the workers the truth. But the managers
were very skeptical. They didn't believe he was the owner
either.
Didn't the other
managers before you tell you about me? He asked.
Yes, but we're not
sure that you're really the owner, you'll have to prove it to
us.
So the owner went
throughout the company fixing equipment and showing those
workers who would listen the correct way to do their jobs.
But many of the managers still didn't believe he was the
owner and thought he was an imposter.
When the owner left
he told those workers who believed in him that he would return
again, to watch for him and be ready because when he came back
he would take those who were ready with him. They would
retire with him and not have to worry about money ever again.
But those who didn't believe would be out of a job because the
company would have to close down. He told them to tell everyone
who worked there so they could all be ready.
So those workers
who believed tried to tell those who didn't believe what the
owner said. That if they would be ready when he came that
they also could retire with him.
The owner waited as
long as he could so that he could take as many as possible with
him into retirement. But the day came when he had to
return and take his believers with him and close down the
company.
If it were you,
would you believe?
The Bible says that
Jesus made the world but the world didn't know Him when He came.
He came to His own people, and they didn't receive Him.
But whoever receives Him He gives power to become a child of
God-to whoever who believes on His name. (John 1:10-12)
If you believe in
Him, you too can one day enter into His rest...
