Desirous of Vain Glory
Galatians 5:25-26

25: If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
26: Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.

26: Let us not become vainglorious and self-conceited, competitive and challenging and provoking and irritating to one another, envying and being jealous of one another. Amplified Bible

All of that basically is summed up by saying not to be selfish.  If we are seeking to rise above everyone else and working towards promoting ourselves and our interests then that would fit what he’s describing here.

Often, the world has the attitude of looking out for yourself and doing whatever you have to do to get ahead.  If you have to step on someone else or make them look bad then that’s O.K. because they would do the same to you.  The world has the idea that whatever everyone else has you have to have.

If we’re not paying attention this attitude will carry over even after we are Christians.  We’ll become this way concerning our ministry, in the church, in our families and in our workplace.  We need to become aware of this attitude and renew our minds to think like God thinks.  We need to walk in the Spirit and allow the fruit of the Spirit to grow in our lives.

Confession:

I will not seek my own glory.  I will not provoke, challenge and compete with others.  I will not be envious and jealous of others.  I’ll do things God’s way as He says in His Word.  I will yield to the Holy Spirit within me.   I will allow the fruit of the Spirit to grow in my life.

Obedience is a tree of life!
