A Cheerful Giver
2 Corinthians 9:6-7

6: But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.
7: Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.

God looks on our hearts.  He has never desired for His people to just outwardly obey His commands if they are rebelling in their heart the whole time (Sometimes your flesh or the ‘old nature’ may try to rise up and rebel against doing what God says, but our decision to obey God comes out of our heart and we can determine to obey God even if our flesh doesn’t want to).

God’s way is for us to live our life and our walk with Him from our heart, out of a desire-and a cheerful desire- to live according to His Word.  This applies to our giving and to everything.  Not grudgingly or of necessity—not because we feel we have to do it, but out of cheerfulness of heart.

This is what faith in Him is all about.  Faith is of our heart, not of our intellect or emotions or physical feelings.  In our hearts is where we want to please God.  This is the difference in the New Testament with us being born again.  Our heart or spirit is brand new, born of God, having His nature.  We don’t have to do things just because we feel we have to or are forced into it.  We can obey God cheerfully out of a desire to please Him.

Confession:

I will listen to my heart—my spirit.  I will give according to how I’ve purposed in my heart to give.  Not grudgingly and not because I feel forced to do so.   But I will give willingly and cheerfully.

Obedience is a tree of life!
