Depart from Iniquity
2 Timothy 2:19

  1. Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.

The foundation of God stands having for a seal two things:

  1. The Lord knows those that are His.

  2. Let every one who names His Name depart from iniquity.

Paul has been discussing giving diligence to the Word of God, rightly handling it and being careful about words that bring damage, words that are vain and useless, words that have no basis for truth.

But he says the foundation of God stands sure.  He is the Truth and what He says and what He does will stand.  Everything that is not built or based on His foundation of Truth will not stand.  And the seal of the foundation is that He knows us who are His and that we are to depart or abstain from iniquity.

Those of us who belong to Him can’t get much built on our foundation if we are still caught up in sin.  He has provided redemption for us and if we don’t want to or don’t know how to use what He’s provided to walk away from sin then we can’t build on the foundation He’s provided.

We need to allow His foundation to be laid in our lives by walking away from sin, not in and of ourselves, but by the blood of Jesus Christ, in His name and by the power of the Holy Spirit.

 

Confession:

I name the Name of Christ and by doing so I’m allowing the foundation of God to be laid in my life.
