What to pursue and who to pursue it with
2 Timothy 2:22

  1. Shun youthful lusts and flee from them, and aim at and pursue righteousness—all that is virtuous and good, right living, conformity to the will of God in thought, word and deed. [And aim at and pursue] faith, love [and] peace—which is harmony and concord with others—in fellowship with all [Christians], who call upon the Lord out of a pure heart. (Amplified Bible).

He says what to follow and pursue: righteousness, faith, love and peace, and who to pursue these things with: those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

Those we associate with will have an influence on us.  We need to hang out with those who are fanatical for the Lord—those who worship Him whole-heartedly without any ulterior motives.  We are strengthened and encouraged as we get around other believers who worship the Lord in this way.

The Lord didn’t call us to be islands to ourselves.  He desires for us to fellowship with each other and encourage one another.  But who we go to for strength and encouragement is vitally important.  If we’re going through a discouraging time in our walk with the Lord we need to get around those who can strengthen and build us up.  And even if we’re not going through a rough time, we still need to pursue the things of God with those who are also pursuing Him with a pure heart.

Confession:

I will follow and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace and I will pursue these things with those who are doing the same and calling on the Lord out of a pure heart.
