August 19 Titus 1:10-13
Those who are in error are to be corrected. These are those who ‘profess that they know God; but in works they deny him’ (verse 16). When there are those in the church who are in error and teach their erroneous doctrine to others, they need to be stopped. He says to "rebuke them sharply that they may be sound in the faith." The purpose of correcting them is not only so they will keep from spreading their false teachings to others but also so they may be sound in the faith themselves. We need to correct people out of a heart of love for them because we want to see them have an accurate and correct understanding of the Word of God. Because if they don’t, they are getting off into dangerous territory and opening the door for trouble. Our motive should not be to prove them wrong or get back at them because we’re angry at them. Our motive should be love and concern for them and those they are teaching.
Confession: I realize that the purpose of correcting those who are in error is so they may be sound in the faith. Whether I am correcting someone or being corrected I will remember this.
Obedience is a tree of life!
