August 26 Titus 3:10-11
A heretic is one who causes divisions. A person in the church who goes around saying or teaching things that are contrary to the sound doctrine of the Word of God that is taught in the church would be a heretic. He says here to warn him not just once, but twice. Then if he doesn’t stop, reject him from fellowship. Do we reject him because we get angry with him because he doesn’t agree with us? No, we do it knowing that he is subverted (perverted), that he is sinning and bringing condemnation on himself. It’s worth mentioning here that whenever the Word of God is brought to someone for correction it must be done in the right attitude of love. If it’s not then we may be a hindrance to that person’s repentance because we make it difficult for them to receive what we are saying by having the wrong attitude or motivation. Our goal should be their salvation and deliverance. We can’t have every little disagreement lead to kicking someone out of the church. But if a person is continuing to speak things that are contrary to the Word and won’t stop, even if he knows it’s contrary to the Word of God, then we can’t have this person continue and bring division among us. The Word of God is the Truth and we must stick to that.
Confession: I’ll not fellowship with anyone who speaks or teaches contrary to the Word of God when he knows it is wrong to do so. If I am warned or corrected by the Word of God through someone, I will be open to correction and abide by the sound doctrine of God’s Word.
Obedience is a tree of life!
