August 6 2 Timothy 2:1-2
Paul has told Timothy to stir up the gift within him, not to be ashamed of the testimony of the Lord, to hold fast to the Word, to guard what has been entrusted to him, and now he tells him to take what he has heard (the message of the Gospel), and commit it to those who are faithful, who are able to teach others. In Matthew 28:18-20 before Jesus ascended into Heaven He instructed His disciples to go and teach all nations to observe all that Jesus had commanded. We are to partake of the Word of God ourselves and then we need to take of that which we’ve received and teach others. Paul takes it one step further here and says to not only teach others but to commit it to those who are faithful, who will teach others as well (This doesn’t mean we stop preaching the Word to the unfaithful or unbelievers for they need to hear it. Jesus said to preach the Gospel to every creature!). We don’t want people to become dependent on us but we want the message of the Gospel to be taught. That’s why he said to commit it to those who are faithful because a faithful person will be diligent to teach others. Commit the Word to the faithful and they will teach others.
Confession: I will endeavor to take what I hear from the Word of God and commit it to others who are faithful who will in turn teach the message of the Gospel to others.
Obedience is a tree of life!
