Our Attitude to the Lost
Jude 21-23

  1. Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.
  2. And of some have compassion, making a difference:
  3. And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.

He’s continuing to tell us how we should behave and what we should do in contrast to the ungodly, worldly attitude and behavior.  First he said to build up our faith by praying in the Spirit (verse 20).  And now he says to keep ourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus.

He says to have compassion and mercy on some, who doubt.  To others he says to snatch them out of the fire, to have mercy with fear, but we are to hate even the garment spotted by the flesh.  We are to hate the sin but strive to save the sinner.

Sin isn’t something to take lightly.  Sin is a killer.  It separates us from God.  It destroys lives spiritually, physically, emotionally and in every way.  We must remember that.  But we must also have mercy and compassion on those caught up in it and do whatever we can in the power of the Holy Spirit to bring others to salvation.  At the same time we need to stay on guard ourselves to be sure we stay in relationship with our Lord and do not fall prey to the enemy’s tricks.

Confession:

I will keep myself in the love of God.  I will have mercy and compassion on the lost.  I will hate the sin but do what I can to reach the sinner and bring them to eternal life through Jesus Christ.

Obedience is a tree of life!
