Discerning who to Follow
1 Corinthians 4:16

16: Wherefore I beseech you, be ye followers of me.

Paul says to be followers (or imitators) of him.  In the verses prior to this he says how there can be 10,000 people who can tell you what to do, instruct you in the Word and be a teacher in that sense.  But he says he had begotten them through the gospel.

As one who fathers children so was he to them.

Those who were willing to make some sacrifices for the sake of the gospel (see verses 8-15), in order to bring the gospel to us are more trustworthy then those who will just instruct you and tell you what to do.

A father cares for his children and sacrifices for them in a way a stranger will not.

Confession:

I will take notice more of those who have sacrificed for the sake of the gospel than those who give advice and instruction but haven’t the love and commitment of a father.

Obedience is a tree of life!
