Idolatry
1 Corinthians 10:5-7

5: But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness.
6: Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.
7: Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.

An idolater is one who worships a false god.  The reference here is Exodus 32:6 when the Israelites built the golden calf out of their gold and then offered burnt offerings and peace offerings to it.

What happened to the Israelites is an example to us.  God was not pleased with many of them.   God is a jealous God and sharing your devotion to Him with another god is not pleasing to Him.

Even though the New Covenant is a covenant of grace and the Old Covenant was a covenant of law.  You can learn from the Old Testament the things that please or displease God.   If you are truly interested in finding out what pleases God you can look to the Old Testament to find out.

Confession:

I choose to worship the Only True God.  I will not worship false gods.  I will not let anything take God’s place as number one in my life.

Obedience is a tree of life!
