July 15 1 Timothy 4:7
There are a lot of ‘silly myths’ we could get caught up in if we believed everything we heard. Sometimes even people in the church will tell us things that are nothing more than ‘old wives tales.’ They are superstitions that have no basis in the Word of God. If it’s not in the Word don’t believe it. Instead of getting wrapped up in myths we’re told to train ourselves toward godliness. The Word of God brings us to a place of godliness. We need to continue in the Word. We need to train ourselves in it. If you were preparing to run a race you would practice running to stay in shape. In the same way, exercise and train toward godliness—work at it. As we study the Word we will have the discernment we need to know if something is of God or not. And our beliefs will be based in truth rather than superstitions.
Confession: I will refuse myths and superstitions and anything that has no basis in the Word of God. Instead I will exercise and train myself in godliness. I will study the Word so I won’t be led astray by myths.
Obedience is a tree of life!
