Don’t Neglect the Gift
1 Timothy 4:14

  1. Do not neglect the gift which is in you, [that special inward endowment] which was directly imparted to you [by the Holy Spirit] by prophetic utterance when the elders laid their hands upon you [at your ordination]  (Amplified Bible).

There was a gift imparted to Timothy by the Holy Spirit.  Paul says it was given or imparted to him by prophecy (prophetic utterance), by the laying on of hands by the elders.  The prophecy itself was a gift to Timothy from the Holy Spirit as well as whatever it was that was imparted to Him, probably some type of ministry gift.

The Holy Spirit imparts gifts to us through various ways.  He says not to neglect the gift that is ‘in you.’  The Holy Spirit gave him a gift and that gift is in him.  Since he tells him not to neglect it, you could say it would be possible to neglect it.  The word ‘neglect’ here means to ‘be careless of.’  We should not neglect or make light of what God has given to us.

Whatever gifts He’s give to you are important!  Don’t neglect the gift(s) but learn to grow in those gifts.  Learn to use whatever gifts He’s given you because we need your gift in the Body of Christ.

Confession:

I will not neglect any gifts the Holy Spirit has given or will give to me.  I realize whatever He’s given to me is valuable and necessary to the Body of Christ.

Obedience is a tree of life!
