Attitudes Towards Other Believers
1 Timothy 6:1-2

  1. Let as many servants as are under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honour, that the name of God and his doctrine be not blasphemed.
  2. And they that have believing masters, let them not despise them because they are brethren; but rather do them service, because they are faithful and beloved, partakers of the benefit. These things teach and exhort.

This is really all about attitude.  He’s telling those who are servants or slaves to honor their masters—especially if they are believers.  It may be difficult enough to show honor to a master who is an unbeliever, but if there is a believer who is a master over someone the tendency may be to say, ‘Hey, he’s a fellow brother, he should treat me better.  I shouldn’t be a slave to him!’  Then the temptation is there to become disrespectful.

You may feel like a brother or sister in the Lord should be treating you better than they are.  The temptation is there to become bitter or disrespectful.  We need to guard against attitudes like that.  We should be having less of an attitude, not more, towards our fellow believers (We really shouldn’t have an ‘attitude’ against anyone-believer or not).  Fellow believers are a part of the Body of Christ.  How we treat them is how we are treating the Lord whether they are right or wrong!

We can’t do anything about how others behave but we can do something about how we behave!

Confession:

I will not have a bad attitude towards anyone.  I will especially be kind and respectful towards fellow believers no matter how they treat me or how I think I deserve to be treated.

Obedience is a tree of life!
