Content with the Basics
1 Timothy 6:-8

  1. But godliness with contentment is great gain.
  2. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.
  3. And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.

Learning to be content will bring great peace into our lives.  The world is very discontent.  The world has such a desire for material things that people go far into debt to try and satisfy their craving for material things.  Or at the very least they spend money on things they don’t really need or use but purchase because everybody else has it.

We must learn to be content with our basic needs being met because by that we learn how to bring our flesh under subjection to our spirit.  This doesn’t mean that God doesn’t want us to have nice things for He does, but He doesn’t want things to become idols to us.  He doesn’t want us to think, "I’ve got to have that!" or "I can’t get by without that!"  He is the only thing we’ve got to have!

When we learn to be content with the basics it takes all the pressure off.  And we will have a greater attitude of thankfulness for the things we do have.  We will appreciate things more.

We need to learn to value spiritual things greater than material things because when we leave this world and all our possessions behind what are we left with?

Confession:

I will be content with my basic needs being met.  I will value spiritual things greater than material things.  I will bring my flesh under subjection and will not lust after things.  Thank You Father for all the good things you’ve given me!

Obedience is a tree of life!
