July 5 2 Thessalonians 3:6 6: Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that
ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not
after the tradition which he received of us. Notice he doesn’t say we ‘suggest’ or we ‘recommend." He says we ‘command you.’ The Amplified Bible says we ‘charge you…in the name and on the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ…’ In other words, this is an important thing he’s saying here. Notice he says not to withdraw from those in the world who walk disorderly (although in other places the Bible tells us to be separate from the world), but here he says to withdraw from every brother who doesn’t abide by the tradition, or precepts, which were received from Paul & Co. He’s specifically talking about laziness and idleness as we’ll see later on. He’s talking about fellow Christians. He’s not saying to stay away from everyone who is not perfect. Those who are new or struggling Christians we need to walk alongside and help. But he’s talking about those who have received the Word but choose to rebel against it and not follow it. We’re not to hang out with those who profess to be Christian yet are not following the Word of God.
Confession: I will do as the Word of God says and withdraw from fellowshipping and supporting those who say they are Christians and yet rebel against the Word of God. This is not including those who are endeavoring to follow the Lord but who are struggling and need support from fellow Christians.
Obedience is a tree of life!
