Endless Genealogies
1 Timothy 1:3-4

  1. As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine,
  2. Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.

Paul is giving encouragement here to Timothy to tell others not to teach any other doctrine, and also not to get wrapped up in fables, or myths, or in ‘endeless genealogies.’  We could spend a lot of time tracing back our genealogy which just adds more questions rather then edify us in faith.

We know we all came from Noah and we all came from Adam, we can just leave it at that and spend our time on things that will build us up in faith and answer questions rather than creating more questions by wondering who our ancestors are.  We won’t go wrong if we stick to the teaching of the Word.  That’s where all our answers to all our questions come from whether we realize it or not.

Confession:

I will stick to the doctrine of the Word of God and I will not waste my time with myths and genealogies.  I will stick to that which I know to be true and which gives answers to the questions of life—the Word of God!
