Deprive of power
Colossians 3:5
- Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication,
uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which
is idolatry;
Mortify therefore. Therefore or because of the fact that you are
risen with Christ and you are dead to yourself and your life is hid with Christ
in God (verses 1-3), because of all that mortify your members which are on the
earth. Or as the Amplified Bible says, "kill, deaden and deprive of
power the evil desire lurking in your members." The evil desires in
your flesh or in your body that would try and have their way.
Those things that would try to operate through you like sexual sins and desires
and greed and covetousness. We can ‘deprive of power’ those things
that would try and operate through us. Because we have the Greater One
living in us we do not have to give in to those things. If He tells us not
to do it then He’s enabled us not to do it!
Confession:
I will not give in to those things that are displeasing to God. I will
deprive of power those evil desires that would try and operate through the flesh
through me.
