The Comfort of His Coming
1 Thessalonians 4:14-18

  1. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
  2. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
  3. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
  4. Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
  5. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

He says to comfort one another with these words.  For God’s people, the return of Jesus Christ to the Earth is a comfort.  Those believers who die before He returns will return with Him, uniting with their resurrected bodies.  Then those who are alive at the time of His return will be caught up in the clouds to meet Him in the air.

These are words of comfort to the believer.  Death is not the end and His return to the Earth is not the end of life for us-for those who believe in Him.  It’s a comfort to know that He will return to the Earth and that there will be an end to the pain and heartache that continues with each new generation.  The more people who believe in Him, the more comforting it is because that’s one more person who will live forever with Him!

Confession:

The return of Jesus is a comfort to those who believe.  I am comforted by the thought of His return and I will comfort others also.

Obedience is a tree of life!
