Armor of the Day
1 Thessalonians 5:7-8

 

  1. For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.
  2. But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.

 

Being that we are ‘of the day’ we don’t participate in the things that go on ‘in the night’.  We’re not involved in sin.  But instead we are sober.  We are alert and aware and live accordingly.

We’re to put on the breastplate of faith and love and our helmet is the hope of salvation.  Our life is a life of faith.  We’re living the way we do because we believe in what we believe in.  We believe in the return of our Lord.  We believe in seeing Him after death.  We believe in what He has written to us in the Bible.  Because of our faith and belief in those things we live the way we do.

That faith and the love of God is a breastplate for us.  It protects our most vital organs.  It protects the very core of our life and beliefs.  And the hope of our salvation protects another vital area of our life.  As we remind ourselves of our hope we keep our thoughts in line and don’t get led astray in our thinking by false teaching.

 

Confession:

I do not participate in the things of darkness but in the things of light.  I put on the breastplate of faith and love and the helmet of hope of salvation.  This faith love and hope protects me from the things of darkness and enables me to continue in my walk with the Lord.

 

Obedience is a tree of life!
