June 29 1 Thessalonians 5:19-20
The margin of the Worrell New Testament says to quench not the Spirit "by failing to do what He bids you." The Strong's Concordance says "quench" means ‘to extinguish’. We’re to yield to the Holy Spirit at all times. We’re to allow Him to move freely and not stop or interfere with Him. We are to do what He tells us. We’re to say as Jesus said, ‘not my will Father, but Yours be done." (Luke 22:42). Whether we don’t do what He tells us to do or we stop or interfere with what He’s doing through someone else, we should instead seek to welcome the Holy Spirit and create an atmosphere He can freely move in. He also says not to despise prophesying. Not to spurn or reject the utterances of the prophets, prophetic revelations, teachings or exhortations. Prophecy is a legitimate move of the Holy Spirit. It is as scriptural for today as it has always been and we’re not to reject prophecy. We’re to judge prophecy’s as 1 Corinthians 14:29 says but legitimate prophetic moves of the Holy Spirit we are to receive. The Holy Spirit is what keeps us from becoming legalistic as the Pharisees had become. Without the Holy Spirit we are simply a religious group that will become works oriented. We need the Holy Spirit!
Confession: I will not quench the Holy Spirit. I will not extinguish His plans. I’ll not reject prophesying or a genuine prophetic move of God. Holy Spirit I welcome You in my life to move freely as you desire.
Obedience is a tree of life!
