Prove all things
1 Thessalonians 5:21

  1. Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.
  1. But test and prove all things [until you can recognize] what is good; [to that] hold fast. (Amplified Bible)

He was just telling them not to quench the Spirit and not to reject prophesying.  Now he says to test and prove all things until you can recognize what is good and then hold fast to it.

Rather than rejecting a move of the Spirit we need to test it or prove it.  This doesn’t mean we don’t receive it without faith for we need to grab hold of the prophetic revelations the Lord gives by faith.  But rather it means we learn to recognize legitimate prophecy’s as they are approved or found true.  Then as we learn to recognize the legitimate we can hold fast to it by faith.

We’re not to accept everything someone says is from the Lord as being from the Lord.  We’re to learn to recognize what is legitimate and as we do then we can have the confidence to hold fast to it.  As you can see this takes a little time to grow and develop in.  But as we stay close to Him and judge everything according to the Word of God we will learn to recognize what is a legitimate prophetic utterance.

Confession:

I will ‘prove all things.’  I will learn to recognize by the Spirit of God what are legitimate moves of the Holy Spirit.  And those that are legitimate I will grab hold of by faith.

Obedience is a tree of life!
