Put Him on
Colossians 3:12-13

 

  1. Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;
  2. Forbearing one another and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.

 

Again we’re told what to put on after we were just told what to put off.  God knows we can’t live a life pleasing to Him on our own without His strength and equipping.  We can’t just stop "bad behavior."  We need His Spirit, His strength and power to live a victorious Christian life and thank God He’s given that to us as well.

The fruit of the Spirit is in all these things described in these verses.  These are the results of having the Spirit of God indwell you (Galatians 5:22-23).  Mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering (patience), forbearing (‘putting up with’) and forgiving.  These are all attitudes and characteristics of God Himself and He tells us to put them on.  We do that by putting Him on.  By receiving the Spirit of God in our lives full to overflowing.

 

Confession:

I will put on the characteristics of the Spirit of God.  God, fill me with Your Spirit so I can live my life full of Your nature.  Fill me with Your Spirit so I am empowered to live as Christ did.
