Follow after Love
1 Corinthians 14:1

1: Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy.

Other translations say to "pursue love" or to "eagerly pursue love".  In 1 Corinthians 12:31 it said to "covet earnestly the best gifts and yet I show unto you a more excellent way."  The more excellent way is love and is described in chapter 13.  Then we have this verse which says to pursue this love.

It’s no mistake that there’s all this talk of love surrounding spiritual gifts.  The love of God will do things that the spiritual gifts cannot do.  The love of God is very powerful.  It can reach people and touch and change lives in ways that nothing else can.  No matter how gifted you are, how much you sacrifice and give for others, if love is not your motivation it’s doesn’t profit you anything.

The love of God within you is to be your motivation for any of the gifts of the Spirit operating within your life.  The gifts are not given to make a person look good or to promote their ministry, but they are given to allow God to reach those who need Him through you.

Confession:

I will eagerly pursue the love of God.  I will make the love of God the motivating force in my life.  As God uses me in the gifts He’s given to me, I will keep His love as my motivation.

Obedience is a tree of life!
