Order for Freedom
1 Corinthians 14:39-40

 

39: Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues.
40: Let all things be done decently and in order.

To summarize his instruction on spiritual gifts, specifically the vocal gifts, he says to covet or desire to prophesy and don’t forbid or hinder speaking in tongues.  There are certain guidelines to follow to keep church services from getting out of order but overall the church is to allow these gifts to operate and actually seek for them to operate.   As long as everything is done decently and in order these gifts are a blessing to the body of Christ.

Sometimes our idea of order and God’s idea of order is different.  God doesn’t necessarily mean a church service should be boring or for the same thing to happen week after week.  Order doesn’t necessarily mean quiet and still either.  Order just means that it’s not confusing.  Don't confuse order with dull and lifeless.

 

Confession:

I will not hinder the gifts of the Spirit from moving within the church.  I desire for them to operate and for God to use me in them as well.  I will do my part to see that the church service unfolds as God intends. 

Obedience is a tree of life!
