What to think
Philippians 4:8

  1. Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Paul in his letter to the Philippians has told them to have the same humble mind as Christ (Phil. 2:5).  He said to have the mindset of pressing toward the mark (Phil. 3:14-16), to rejoice in the Lord (4:4), to not worry but to pray (4:6).  And now he tells them what to think on.

Our thoughts, attitudes and mindset is a very important part of the amount of success we will have in our Christian walk.  We are to think on the things he lists here; whatever is true, honest, just, pure, lovely, of good report, virtue and praise.  The Amplified Bible says to ‘fix our minds on them’.

Instead of focusing on the troubles of life and the problems going on around us focus on the good.  It’s not that we are to deny problems that are there.  But after we quit worrying as verse 6 says and pray about the problem thanking God for the victory, then we can rest in His peace and keep our mind on good like he says to do here.

We’ve already done what he says to do about the problems now we can rest in Him.  There’s no sense in worrying.  We trust God to bring the answer however that may be.

Confession:

I will think on what is true, honest, just, pure and lovely.  I will think on what is of good report, of virtue and worthy of praise.  I will fix my mind on these things because I believe God is taking care of me and any problems presented to me.
