Don’t be spoiled
Colossians 2:8

 

  1. Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

 

God’s Word is the ultimate truth.  There are many people in the world who believe they know the truth about different things.  There are many people who believe they know the truth but who don’t.  There are all sorts of ‘philosophies and vain deceits’ going on that just aren’t true.

People have opinions on everything from evolution to how to raise your children and many people not only believe a lie, but want you to side up with them and also believe a lie.  He says to beware so no one spoils you (the Amplified Bible says, ‘carries you off as spoil or makes you yourselves captive), by philosophy or vain deceit.

Following after the opinions, traditions and deceits of men will not bring us to the truth.  Even if we don’t know the truth, our lives are still governed by it because truth is truth.  But if we are deceived we may have consequences we weren’t expecting because we didn’t know we were deceived.

 

Confession:

I will beware of philosophies and vain deceits, of traditions of men that are contrary to the Word of God. Father God show me Your truth!
