Traditions & Judgments of men
Colossians 2:16-17

 

  1. Therefore let no one sit in judgment on you in matters of food and drink, or with regard to a feast day or a new moon or a Sabbath.
  2. Such [things] are only the shadow of things that are to come, and they have only a symbolic value. But the reality—the substance, the solid fact of what is foreshadowed, the body of it—belongs to Christ. (Amplified Bible)

 

The traditions of men apart from the Word of God will keep people in bondage.  When people start making restrictions that the Word of God doesn’t make then God is not free to have His way. Man’s word is being exalted above God’s Word which will quench the Spirit of God.  This happened in the Garden of Eden when Eve said they couldn’t touch the tree of knowledge of good and evil.  God never said they couldn’t touch it, only they couldn’t eat it.

So he says here not to let anyone judge you regarding what you eat or drink (or don’t eat or drink), or in regards to holidays, Sabbath days etc..  These things are simply a shadow of what is to come.

 

Confession:

I realize that traditions of men apart from God’s Word will bring people into bondage.  I will exalt the Word of God above the word and traditions of men and obey that.

 

 

Obedience is a tree of life!
