Vainly puffed up
Colossians 2:18-19

  1. Let no one defraud you by acting as an umpire and declaring you unworthy and disqualifying you for the prize, insisting on self-abasement and worship of angels, taking his stand on visions [he claims] he has seen, vainly puffed up by his sensuous notions and inflated by his unspiritual thoughts and fleshy conceit.
  2. And not holding fast to the Head, from Whom the entire body, supplied and knit together by means of its joints and ligaments, grows with a growth that is from God.

There may be those who claim to have revelations or instructions from the Lord that would tell us we need to do certain things (It could be any man made rules, see verses 21-23).  He mentions here self-abasement and worshipping angels.  A person like this will have the motivation of exalting himself.  He wants to look spiritual but actually he is just behaving out of his own fleshly conceits.

The warning here is not to be taken in by people like this.  This person is not properly hooked into the Head but is off on his/her own.  As all of us submit to the Head of the body of Christ, the body will function the way God intends in a healthy way.

Confession:

I will not receive from those whose ‘visions’ and ‘revelations’ are not truly from the Spirit of God.  Father, I ask for your discernment and insight into those situations.  I thank You for it in Jesus’ Name.
