A Glorious Church
Ephesians 5:21-22, 24-25, 32-33

  1. Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.
  2. Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.
  1. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.
  2. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church and gave himself for it;
  1. This is a great mystery; but I speak concerning Christ and the church.
  2. Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.

The first verse here is actually continuing on in the previous train of thought about worshipping the Lord.  He talks of submitting to each other and then goes on to discuss the husband and wife relationship and how it represents Christ and the church.  This discussion stemmed from being filled with the Spirit and worshipping the Lord.

The wives relationship to the husband is to submit to him as unto the Lord.  The husband is to love his wife as Christ loved the church (If each one does their part it makes it the other one’s easier! Don’t point fingers at your spouse you start obeying the Lord first).

The relationship of husband and wife is to represent Christ and the church.  The wife—representing the church—submits to her husband as the church submits to Jesus Christ.  The husband—representing Christ—loves his wife as Christ loved us and gave Himself to die for us.

Jesus died to sanctify and cleanse us so we would be a glorious church without spot or wrinkle!

Confession:

(Married): I will do my part to represent the relationship of Christ and the church in my marriage.

(Everyone): I will submit to Jesus Christ as the Head of the church and receive His sanctification by the Word so that I become holy without spot or wrinkle.

Obedience is a tree of life!
