Inherit a Blessing
1 Peter 3:9

  1. Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrawise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing.

He mentioned this earlier when telling wives to use Jesus as their example and not return threats or insults.  Now he says for everyone to behave this way.  If we’re treated wrong or insulted we shouldn’t react with mistreatment or insult back to the person.  In fact, not only should we not return an insult with an insult but we should return with a blessing.  The Amplified Bible says, "praying for their welfare, happiness and protection, and truly pitying and loving them."

It takes God within us to be able to truly love, pity and pray a blessing on those who mistreat us.  But again, we have Jesus as our example and He now lives within us if we have received Him as Lord and Savior.

We need to know that we are called to this kind of behavior and we ourselves will inherit a blessing from God as His heirs.  When we behave as heirs we have the blessing of an heir.  As we become more like Jesus we will receive more of what He has.

Confession:

I will not return evil with evil or insult with insult.  Instead I will return a blessing on those who mistreat me.  I know and realize that I am called to inherit a blessing so I will act in a way deserving of the blessing God has given to me.

Obedience is a tree of life!
