He That Will Love Life…
1 Peter 3:10-12

  1. For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile:
  2. Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it.
  3. For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.

In these verses, Peter is quoting from Psalm 34:12-16 to make the point that we are to pursue a lifestyle of following the Lord and living according to the principals shown to us in the Word of God.  As we do these things, we are setting ourselves up for a fulfilling life and good days.

The first thing mentioned here is concerning the words of our mouth.  We’re to keep from speaking evil and guile (or deceitful words).  Evil here gives the idea of words that not only do not profit anything or anyone but they cause harm.  Then he says to turn away from evil or wickedness and do good.  We’re also to seek and pursue peace.

The focus here is to turn away from evil words and actions and to pursue a life of righteousness and peace with God instead.  It comes down to the desires and motivations of our hearts.  We’re not to just pretend we want to turn away from evil and pursue God.  We’re not to outwardly conform without an inner change of heart.  It won’t work.  We’ll just become "religious" people without the life and power of God in our lives.

Thank God as we call upon Him and seek Him He will meet us where we are and as a result we’re able to live a successful, fulfilling life.

Confession:

I turn away from evil words and actions and pursue a life of righteousness and peace with God instead.  Because of that, I love life and will see good days.

Obedience is a tree of life!
