Sober and Alert in Prayer
1 Peter 4:7

  1. But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.

We should remain sober or sound-minded and alert for prayer, especially as the end draws near.  As the evil in the world continues and gets worse and as others come against our Christian lifestyle, we need to especially remain sober and alert for prayer.

This isn’t a time for us to let our guard down and begin to accept some of the lusts of the flesh as O.K.  We want to reach people with the message of the Gospel so they can be free from the lifestyle of sin that will eventually bring judgment on them.  We don’t want to cut these people off from the love of God and the message of the truth, but we don’t want to condone a sinful lifestyle either.

And we want to remain alert so that we don’t become deceived into accepting things into our lives that are contrary to the Word of God.  This means we have to remain sound-minded and alert and pray.  We need the mind and moving of God!

Confession:

I will remain sound-minded and alert for prayer.  I will continue to seek the Truth for my life.  I will not condone a sinful lifestyle but I will continue in prayer and do my part in reaching the lost with the message of the Gospel.

Obedience is a tree of life!
