Favoritism
James 2:1

  1. My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons.
  1. My brethren, do not hold your faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ with an attitude of personal favoritism. New American Standard

He goes on to say if one comes into your church wearing fine clothes and jewelry and a poor man comes in with shabby clothes, not to treat the wealthy person better than the poor person.  How often do we do this!

Do we treat those who we think have something to offer us better than those we think don’t have anything to offer us?  A person’s financial, social or educational status doesn’t make him/her any better or worse in the eyes of God.  Jesus died for everyone equally.

We must be careful not to promote people according to natural standards.  Whether it be by esteeming their opinion better than another’s or by giving them a better position in the church, we must recognize the gifts God has put within each one and place them in positions accordingly.  All of us have a place in the body of Christ and we need to learn to function in the position the God has called us to and allow others to do the same.

Confession:

I will not show respect of persons or personal favoritism!  I know that Jesus died for everyone and I will not judge according to natural standards but according to the Word of God.  I will learn to recognize the gifts God has placed within those in the body of Christ.

Obedience is a tree of life!
