Resist the Devil
James 4:7

  1. Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Submit yourselves therefore to God.  In other words, because of what he just said about God resisting the proud and giving grace to the humble (verse 6), we should, therefore, submit ourselves to Him.

In regards to the devil, we need to resist him.  The Amplified Bible says to ‘stand firm against’ him.  When we resist him he will flee from us.  We don’t need to worry about the devil taking charge of our lives.  We don’t need to worry about him having control over us.  We are to resist him and stand against him if he tries that and he will flee.  God said so.

It’s also true then, that we can’t use him as an excuse for sin in our life.  To say, ‘the devil made me do it’ shows that a person either doesn’t know that they don’t have to give in to the devil or they don’t want to resist him.  The devil is real and he is our enemy but Jesus defeated him for us and if we resist him, he will flee!

Confession:

I submit myself to God.  I resist the devil and he flees from me.  He cannot take charge in my life.  Jesus has defeated him and he has no authority over me!

Obedience is a tree of life!
