He’s been talking about repenting of sin and drawing near to God and now he says to humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord and He will lift you up. When we humble ourselves before the Lord and admit our insignificance without Him then He lifts us up, exalts us and makes our lives significant. We can’t skip this step of humbling ourselves before Him because we need to accept the fact that any good that is in our life is because of Him. Even Jesus wouldn’t allow someone to call Him good. He said there is only One who is good—the Father (Matthew 19:16-17). If Jesus feels that way then we should so much more. When we come to Him with this attitude, then He makes our lives significant. He makes us heirs with God and joint-heirs with Jesus Christ (Romans 8:17). He has raised us up to be seated in heavenly places in Christ Jesus (Ephesians 2:6). He makes us righteous (1 Corinthians 1:30) and a fellow citizen of the household of God! (Ephesians 2:19). I would rather accept His exalting than me trying to exalt or justify myself!
Confession: I will not try and exalt myself. I humble myself in the sight of the Lord. Thank You Father God that as I’ve humbled myself in Your sight You lift me up. Thank You for making my life significant. Thank You for making me to sit in heavenly places in Christ and for making me righteous and a joint-heir with Jesus!
Obedience is a tree of life!
