Gird Up the Loins of Your Mind
1 Peter 1:13

  1. Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;

The Amplified Bible for "gird" says to "brace up your minds."  To gird means to equip or to prepare for action.  The Amplified Bible for "sober" says to be "sober—circumspect (morally alert)."  The New American Standard says to be "sober in spirit."

We’re to be equipped and prepared in our minds as well as being spiritually sober and alert.  We’re to ‘hope to the end’ or fully hope for the grace which is to be given to us at the revelation of Jesus Christ.  Hope here means to expect or anticipate.

This verse tell us we need to put some thought, preparation and effort into our walk with the Lord.  We need to be prepared mentally and spiritually for the things that come up in our every day lives between now and the revelation of Jesus Christ.  The hope of grace being given to us at that time will encourage and strengthen us today.

So gird up the loins of your mind.  Equip and prepare yourself in your mind.  Keep your thoughts on the Word of God which is what will keep you headed in the right direction.  Stay spiritually alert and expectant of the grace of God which will be given to you.

Confession:

I will prepare myself mentally and spiritually for whatever I might face.  I will handle whatever comes up according to the Word of God, hopefully anticipating the grace that will be given to me.

Obedience is a tree of life!
