Let No Man Say He Is Tempted By God
James 1:13-16

  1. Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:
  2. But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
  3. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
  4. Do not err, my beloved brethren.

When we are tempted it is not God who is tempting us and we shouldn’t say it is.  God does not bring evil things across our path to tempt us or test us or prove us.  God is not here to try and make us fail.  God is here to make us overcome!  He brings the answers to us, not the problems.

We are tempted when we are ‘drawn away.’   When we begin to get our eyes off Him and look to other things.  Our own lust or cravings of evil things will draw us away from Him and cause us to sin.  This is why we need to keep our flesh under subjection.  In our spirit we are new creatures in Christ and have the life and nature of God and we want to follow Him in our hearts, but our flesh can rise up and lead us astray if we don’t watch it.

It’s not God who is tempting us to try and make us stronger or to prove something.  It’s our own lust.  We should not be in error or deceived concerning this.  Every good gift is from above as He says in verse 17.

Confession:

I will not say God is tempting me or bringing evil my way to tempt me.  I realize it is not God, it is my own lust and I will not allow lust to lead me into sin.

Obedience is a tree of life!
