An Evil Heart of Unbelief
Hebrews 3:12

  1. Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.

He calls an unbelieving heart ‘evil.  He’s not talking to the sinner here he’s talking to the saints—to Christians.  To those who profess Jesus Christ as Lord.  He says, "take heed, brethren…"  So he is telling Christians to beware lest there be in any of us an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the Living God.

Unbelief will cause us to depart from the Living God.  We may become Christians and profess Jesus Christ as Lord but if we don’t believe Him, as they did in the provocation (when they didn’t believe they could enter into the Promised Land), we will depart from Him.

God is going one way and if we don’t believe we can go that way we’ll depart from Him because He’s not going to change His mind.  He says we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us (Phil. 4:13)!  He says He always causes us to triumph in Christ (2 Cor. 2:14)!  He says He has made us more than conquerors through Him who loved us (Romans 8:37)!  And if He says we can do it then we can do it!

Confession:

I will take heed that I do not develop an unbelieving heart, which causes me to depart from the Living God.  I will stick with Him.  I will follow Him by faith into the Promised Land He has for me!

Obedience is a tree of life!
