Remember
Hebrews 10:32

  1. But call to remembrance the former days, in which, after ye were illuminated, ye endured a great fight of afflictions.

He says for them to remember what they went through after they were ‘illuminated’ or as the Amplified Bible says, "spiritually enlightened."  He goes on to describe what they went through in verses 33 and 34.

Why would he tell them to remember all that if it was a painful thing to go through?  He tells them to remember because it was something they came through!  What they went through did not destroy or defeat them but they came through it successfully.  Even though it may have been a tough time and they had some property seized (verse 34), they still came through victoriously.

They knew what they have in heaven is a "better and an enduring substance."  It can be quite an encouragement to us to look back and remember the things the Lord has brought us through.  We may remember how we felt at the time.  We may have felt we couldn’t get through or we may have not been able to figure out how we would get through and by looking back and seeing that we did get through it gives us hope and encouragement for today.

Confession:

I will remember those difficult times the Lord has brought me through and receive strength, hope and encouragement for today.
