Don’t Refuse His Voice Today
Hebrews 12:25

  1. See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven:

Under the Old Covenant before Jesus died and rose again, God spoke to His people differently than He does now.  His people often turned away from Him and His commands and suffered the consequences of that.  Those who refused to listen to what He spoke did not escape the consequences.

Often in the Old Testament there were spectacular signs of their disobedience, as he describes in Hebrews 12:18-21.  The writer of Hebrews here says for us not to refuse Him who speaks to us today.  If they didn’t escape the consequences of rejecting Him then how much more will we not escape now because we have a voice from heaven.

Today, we can hear from God ourselves directly.  We don’t need Him to speak to us through others or through a lot of outward signs like they did then.  But that doesn’t make what He says less important.  Just because His Words don’t come to us outwardly, they come to us from within, doesn’t make them less trusting.  That makes them more worthy of our trust.  We can hear from heaven ourselves and we need to take heed to what we hear!

Confession:

I will not refuse or reject what the Lord speaks to me today.  Just because it may not be with spectacular signs or outward show doesn’t make what He says to me any less real.  In fact, how He speaks to us today is more reliable.
