September 3 Hebrews 4:1
Those Israelites who did not believe they could enter into the Promised Land didn’t enter in. He compares entering into the Promised Land with entering into His rest. If we don’t believe, we won’t enter in. He says here that we should fear not entering into the rest He’s promised us. This is something we should be concerned about. The possibility of not entering into what He’s promised us is something we need to pay attention to. He goes on in verse 2 to say the Word preached must be mixed with faith in those that hear it. That’s why it did not profit them. It didn’t do them any good because they didn’t respond in faith to what God said. We also must respond in faith to what God says to us in order for it to do us any good. There’s a place of rest God has promised us. It’s a place of comfort, a peaceful, stable place of settling in with Him. It’s a place of ceasing from our own works as God did from His on the seventh day (verse 10). We need to pay attention that we don’t miss or fall short of this place of rest by not responding in faith to the Word of God.
Confession: I will be watchful that I don’t fall short of the promises of God. I will mix with faith the Word of God I hear preached.
Obedience is a tree of life!
