A Doer of the Doctrines
Hebrews 6:1-2

  1. Therefore, leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God.
  2. Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.

The writer of Hebrews is continuing his instruction to go on from the foundational doctrines of Christ and to grow and mature spiritually.  The doctrine of baptisms, laying on of hands, resurrection of the dead and eternal judgment (along with repentance from dead works and faith towards God), are basic teachings that we need to build on.

They are not subjects we should consider advanced or ‘strong meat.’  We need these teachings, just as a baby needs milk.  We need to receive the basic doctrines of Christ.  But we need to take heed to what we hear and put them into practice in our life so we can, by that experience, grow and be ready for further teaching from the Word.

Hebrews 5:14 says that strong meat belongs to them that are of full age (or mature), those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.  As we put into practice the basic principals of Christianity that we’ve leaned, as we become a doer of what we’ve heard already, then we will be able to go on and grow spiritually and have a greater understanding of the Word of God.

Confession:

I will put into practice the basic principals of the Word of God that I’ve learned and heard.  As a result of being a doer of the Word of God I will grow spiritually and be able to receive further teaching from the Word of God.

Obedience is a tree of life!
