August 6, 2003 "…there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things,…" 1 Corinthians 8:6 God. We use it so loosely. We talk about ‘your god’ and ‘my god’ etc. But the meaning of the word was meant to refer to the ultimate ruling being. The 1 who ultimately rules everything. By definition, there cannot be more than one God. Because there can only be 1 who is above all. There can only be 1 from whom everything came. We’ve watered down the meaning of God by implying that there could be more than one. God is synonymous with truth. If we find God we find truth, if we find truth we find God. God and truth mean the same thing. Whenever you hear God, substitute "truth." And you will see that there can only be one God. There is only one truth. Truth only comes from God. Just like there can’t be more than one God there can’t be truth that exists outside of God. It’s simple. Yet people have fought this one simple truth. Once you accept the reality of God and truth then everything else in your life will begin to fall into place. Because the next obvious step is to find out who God is. Who is this One who created everything and will have the final say so in the end? Getting to know this one God is thrilling. Getting to know God is what every human heart is longing for. Nothing will satisfy anyone like getting to know God. The word God does not just represent a position, or an office. It represents a personality. He is not an ‘it’ and He’s not a faceless God sitting on a hidden throne. Adam and Eve knew this God personally and ever since their fall mankind has tried through every way he knew how to try and reach God. Even the Israelites who were God’s people under the Old Covenant tried to know and understand God through the law He gave to Moses but even then the only thing they discovered was that man in a sinful state can’t reach God. There had to be a mediator. Someone had to bridge this gap between mankind and God. Thank God Someone did! His name is Jesus. "For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;" 1 Timothy 2:5 Jesus is the only one able to bridge the gap between God and man because He is a man—He was born in the earth. But He is also God. His Father is not an earthly father so He was not born with the sinful nature that the rest of mankind was born with. But even though He was tempted like we are in every way, He lived a sinless life. And as a result He was the only one qualified to pay the price for the sin of mankind. He willingly died and took the penalty for our sin and now whoever calls on Jesus will be saved. Whoever believes in Jesus and confesses Him as Lord will have that sinful nature removed and will be able to approach God as a Father through Jesus Christ. We can now discover who God is through Jesus. Because of Jesus, we can get to know God personally as our Heavenly Father. If you never have, call on Jesus today. Make Him Lord of your life and begin to discover who the One True God really is! God Bless you and have a great day! |
