"Wherefore Holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;...Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed unto the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession...Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised:)" Hebrews 3:1, 4:14, 10:23 The word profession here means acknowledgment. Its also translated confession in several other translations. Its talking about our confession and acknowledgment of Jesus Christ and what He has done for us and recognizing Him as our Apostle and High Priest. Its not that He is the High Priest over our confession in the sense that Hes watching over what we say and is going to make that happen, but its that our confession is to be based on His Lordship in our life. We are confessing Him as our Apostle and High Priest. We are confessing and acknowledging what He has done for us and our life comes in alignment with all that He has done for us. He is the substance of our confession. "Let us therefore, (since we have such a great High Priest who can be touched with the feeling of our infirmities), come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need...Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus...Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith,..." Hebrews 4:16, 10:19,22Through Jesus we can enter into this new covenant with Almighty God. Through the acknowledging and accepting and confessing what Jesus has done for us, we partake of all that Hes done for us and can enter into the Holy of Holies--the presence of God, to have intimate relationship with Him. Because of our faith we can boldly enter this place. We need to hold fast our profession--our acknowledgment, acceptance and confession of faith in Him. We can hold fast because He is faithful. The promise of being able to enter in like that is a true and valid promise. He is able to perform that which He promised. God will not promise something that He cannot carry through. There is true power in what Jesus did. We need to hold fast to that without wavering. At times we can get so wrapped up in confessing a good confession of faith that we forget who our faith is in. The only reason we can confess all the good things He has done for us is because He has done all that for us. We need to remember our faith and confession stands in the acknowledging of every good thing that is in us in Christ Jesus. "That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus." Philemon 6 The Amplified Bible says, "And I pray that the participation in and sharing of your faith may produce and promote full recognition and appreciation and understanding and precise knowledge of every good thing that is ours in our identification with Christ Jesus--and unto His glory." Paul was praying that as they communicated their faith that it would cause them to fully recognize, appreciate and understand every good thing that belonged to them as a result of their identification with Christ Jesus. We can receive from that prayer also. As we communicate--confess and profess our faith in Him--we will begin to more fully identify with all the Jesus Christ has done for us. Jesus is to be the central theme of our faith. Its our faith in Him and what Hes done for us that causes all that Hes accomplished for us to become real in our life. If we take Jesus out of the center of our faith, all we have is a formula that misses the true intent of His death and resurrection--which is intimate fellowship with Him, access to His throne of grace, made possible because we are washed and cleansed by the blood of Jesus! God Bless you and have a great day! |
