Life is Not a TV Screen!

April 2, 2004

Are you an observer or a participator in your life?  The Lord told me not long ago, "Life is not a TV screen!"  What that means is that many people sit back and view their life like they were watching a movie.  They sit back and watch what happens to them like they were just an observer with no input into what happens.  Their prayers are from the standpoint of wanting to know what is going to happen rather then what they can do to change the direction of things.  They think that whatever happens to them must have some sort of purpose that they can’t understand right now but they will understand at the end of the movie—their life.

With DVD’s and computers now we are able to participate in interactive programs.  People like this.  With the control to choose different options, even different endings to some movies, we feel more involved and enjoy the power of choice.  And in our own lives we have the power of choice.

"I call heaven and earth to witness this day against you that I have set before you life and death, the blessings and the curses; therefore choose life, that you and your descendants may live and may love the Lord your God, obey His voice and cling to Him…" Deuteronomy 30:19-20 The Amplified Bible

In the Old Testament they often used the word ‘choice’ to describe something that is high quality or the best.  When you go to the meat market and you’re looking for high quality meat what do they call it?  They call it ‘choice’ meat.  Do you know that this word ‘choose’ here in Deuteronomy is the same word from which most of the Old Testament words translated ‘choice’ come from.  In Proverbs 10:20 we read that the tongue of the just is as choice silver.  In 2 Samuel 10:9 we read that when Joab saw the battlefront that was against him we picked the choice men of Israel.  These words ‘choice’ are the same word translated ‘choose.’  You see, God assumes that when we are faced with a choice we will automatically choose the choicest—the best.  The purpose of a choice is to give you an option for something better than what you have!

Are you an observer watching your life play out like a movie with no control or input into what happens?  Or will you be a participant and take the choice to interact into your life and find out how to choose other options than what has been sent your way?  God wants you to participate.  God wants you to find out what choices are available to you.  He has other choices available for you, but like Brother Hagin used to say, they’re not going to just fall on you like ripe cherries off a tree!  You have to put some effort into it.  You need to find out what your options are.  And you do this through seeking God.

When you pray, don’t just ask God what is going to happen in your life but ask Him what your options are and what options He wants you to choose.  Ask Him how to go about implementing those options into your life.  Some people may be comfortable with accepting whatever comes but we have the responsibility as God’s representatives in the earth to bring His will to pass.  Jesus told us to pray ‘thy will be done in earth as it is in Heaven."  If God’s will was just going to happen without us doing anything about it then why would we need to pray for His will to be done?  We pray for His will to be done so we can receive insight and wisdom into what His will is and then carry it out.

Stir up those dusty old dreams and desires that have been lying dormant in your heart.  Those visions of better things that God has given you.  Dust them off, stir them up, revive them and begin to make some decisions to walk the path that will take you there!
