God’s Promises

March 03, 2000
Revised April 2, 2005

Did you know that God has made certain promises?  As you read the Bible you will find some of the promises that God has made.  But many of God's promises are conditional.  And It's true with anything that is conditional that if you don’t know what the conditions are, then you won't be able to receive the benefit. For example, the Bible says that if you believe in God's Son Jesus Christ then you will be saved. (Romans 10:9-13).   But you need to know that you must believe in Jesus first in order to be saved.  If you don't hear about the promise, and if you don't know it is for you personally, then you won't be able to meet the conditions of the promise.

It's true that some of the promises God made to certain individuals in the Bible will also apply to you if you meet the same conditions that they did.  God spoke to Joshua and told him if he would do certain things then he (Joshua) would make his way prosperous and have good success.  The Lord told Joshua that if he would continually speak about the "Book of the Law" which were the commands of God, and if he would meditate on them day and night then his way would be prosperous and he would have good success. (Joshua 1:8).  That same promise applies to you if you will meet the same conditions that Joshua did.

Moses told the people the principles he learned from God which were that if they would hearken diligently to the voice of the Lord and observe to do all His commandments then certain blessings would happen to them.  God would "set them on high".   Blessings would overtake them.  They'd be blessed in the city and in the field.  They'd be blessed coming in and going out.  Their children and their stuff would all be blessed.  Everything they would set their hand to would be blessed.  Their enemies would flee from them in seven different ways.  They would be holy unto the Lord and everyone would see that they were called by His name.  They would be plenteous in goods.  The Lord would open His good treasure to them.  They would  lend and not borrow.   They would be the head and not the tail, above only and not beneath. (Deuteronomy 28).  Those are some awesome promises!

The promises in Deuteronomy were given to Israel as a nation.  You might know that when an individual obeys the Lord then His blessing will be on them.  But it's also true that the blessing can come on a nation.  It can come on a group of people, on a place of business, a church or a family.   You can bring the blessing of God to your nation,  workplace, church or family by living according to the ways of God's Kingdom.  You can be God's gateway of blessing to a group of people!

The Bible is full of promises from God.  When you listen to the wise words of God, really listen and keep them in front of your eyes and in your heart, then you have the promise of those very words bringing life and health to you. (Proverbs 4:20-22).

The apostle Paul told the Corinthian Church that God was able to make all grace abound toward them so that they would always have an abundance for every good work. (2 Corinthians 9:8).  God is able to do that.  And of course as you learn to walk in His Kingdom ways you will begin to see Him bringing these kinds of promises and blessings into your life and the lives of the people around you.  Don't delay!  Find out what God's ways are all about.  He has daily and eternal treasures waiting for you to discover!

God Bless you and have a great day!
